Women's development

Welcome to our women's section, where you'll find the latest events, news, info, and resources specifically for women in mountain biking. You can also join our women's email list from the sidebar of this page for regular updates.

Here are some things we are thinking about doing in 2010-11:

  • A mixture of skills and social rides (that cater to different levels)
  • Fostering women's participation in the Scott 24hr in October including information sessions and training rides
  • Encouraging women to find riding buddies through forums such as www.theberm.com.au
  • Regular 'pub chats' to share info about mountain biking without wearing a helmet
  • Organised childcare at club races
  • Introductory sessions for adolescent girls who what to give mountain biking a go (remember we have three bikes and body armour for loan)
  • The annual women's skills camp in September (sign up to the women's email list to receive an alert when registration opens).
  • Other formal skills days
  • A women's novice XC race
  • Facilitating applications for the Ausport Sport Leadership Grants for Women in 2011.
  • Seeking sponsorship for women specific activities

This is an ambitious program of activities, so we need your help to make it happen, no matter how small, or how little experience you have. Consider leading (or helping to lead) a social ride on your favourite trails, sharing your skills or organising drinks and a discussion.

We want to know if any of these ideas appeal to you or if you have other ideas you would like us to pursue, including issues for elite women or in disciplines other than cross country.

We also want to know if you have any barriers to participation (social riding or racing) and if there is anything we can do to help.

Loans are conditional (borrowers or parents/guardians have to take full responsibility for their safe return and risks). Contact the Women's Development Officers at women@corc.asn.au or Kris Nicholls (southside) 0433 932 210 or Anne Napier 0410 008 068 (northside) for more information. (Text messages are better!)
